High Deposition MIG (HD MIG)

Weld Faster, increase productivity and efficiency

HD MIG is an extended stick-out CV GMAW process with optimized starts for high-deposition welding. Using HD MIG allows for lower heat input than conventional CV Spray at high-deposition rates, which allows for better bead appearance, more control, and less distortion on large structures. A longer than standard nozzle is used to increase your contact tip-to-work distance (CTWD). This allows for an extended CTWD while retaining a conventional look from the operator’s perspective.

Key Benefits

HD MIG Welding

HD MIG welding delivers high deposition rates of 20+ pounds per hour, while enabling increased wire feed speeds at the same amperage as conventional CV welding. It can produce 5/16-inch fillet welds at speeds of up to 22 inches per minute, helping improve productivity and weld efficiency.

Lower Heat Input

Lower heat input helps minimize warping and burn-through while providing greater control at higher deposition rates. This makes HD MIG an effective solution for applications requiring high productivity without compromising weld quality.

Easy to Use

HD MIG allows skilled operators to take advantage of higher deposition rates to complete large welds faster, while less-skilled operators benefit from the process’s simplicity and ease of use. Parameter setup is straightforward because HD MIG uses the same familiar settings as conventional CV welding.

Ideal for Automatic or Semi-Automatic Applications

HD MIG is ideal for applications where large welds need to be completed faster and more consistently. Its controllable arc makes large welds easier to accomplish, even for less-skilled operators. HD MIG can also be integrated with through-arc seam tracking, making it well suited for automated and semi-automated welding applications.
